Beaches

There are 3 main beaches in the area, Croyde - Putsborough Sands - Saunton Sands.

All have their own features, all are good for surfing under different wind and swell conditions.

Croyde beach is great for many activities, dune jumping, kite flying, volleyball, building sand castles and all sorts of games. The sea here can be great for water sports including surfing, boogie boarding, swimming and paddling - but be careful and always stay near the lifeguards and between the flags, and watch out for strong tides and rip currents when the surf is high. Always swim or surf with someone else

Croyde and Saunton have sand dunes backing onto the beach, Putsborough is so long you could walk all the way to Woolacombe !

The best rock pools are at Croyde.

The best wind sports are at Saunton.

Swim between the flags and follow the water safety code

Always swim or surf at a beach patrolled by lifesavers or lifeguards.
Swim between the red and yellow flags. They mark the safest areas to swim.
Avoid swimming alone or unsupervised.
Read the signs. If a beach is closed, don't swim there.
If you are unsure of the surf conditions ask a lifeguard or lifesaver.
Don't swim directly after a meal.
Don't swim under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Don't run or dive in the water, always check the conditions, they might have changed.
If you get in trouble in the water, don't panic, raise one arm up and float until help arrives.
Float with a rip current or undertow, don't swim against it.
